Goal Setting for the Year Ahead

10/12/2014

How to Set Goals for 2017

Most people don’t seem to look at their goals for the coming year until January 1st.

After the excesses of the holiday season it's pretty clear that some things have to change - and almost anything, from losing weight, getting fit, changing jobs, saving more, giving more generously or learning a new language could appear on the list.

Whether you're ahead of the curve or a little late to the party, NOW is always a good time to set goals and plan for a more compelling future.

Essential Steps for Setting Goals You Intend to Achieve

These are the 7 Essential Steps to accomplish absolutely anything

KEY 1
  • Define what you like to have happen. Simply that. Only make sure it's something so compelling that it immediately stirs you up inside and releases energy and  enthusiasm to your mind and body. There is simply no point setting a goal that doesn't affect you this way.

KEY 2
  • Know who YOU are.  This is an absolutely essential step. You need to develop your own sense of IDENTITY so that you see yourself as the sort of person who naturally achieves the kind of goal you've set for yourself. See yourself as a King, a Queen, a Lover, a Sage, a Warrior... and you'll find you set different goals. (The free gift mentioned above will give you a specific aid to help you with this.)

KEY 3
  • Get clear. Write down a clear, specific description of you goal Make it so simple a 6 year old could remember it and tell it to a friend.

KEY 4
  • Plan. Define the steps you need to take to get there. If ANY step looks like too much to take on, break it into smaller, more manageable steps.

KEY 5
  • Take action. No point having a plan if you don't start to *do* what needs doing. Prioritise the next step on the plan and discipline yourself to take continual action.

KEY 6
  • Notice what’s working. Get clear on how things are progressing.  Noticing requires your *attention*. So take time to assess what's really going on. Are you getting closer to your ultimate outcome - or not.

KEY 7
  • Flex and persist. Many times the approach you've taken will not achieve the outcome you've desired. So, should you give up? Of course not. Get back to the original vision you had and get stirred up again on the inside... remind yourself of who you are and plan another approach to resolving the challenge before you. Learn to let go of the past and never, never give up.

Look back, Take Stock and Learn

As I'm writing this, much of the world is caught up in holiday preparations and a New Year is only a few weeks away.

After the excesses of the holiday season many people start seeking a change - and almost anything from losing weight, getting fit, changing jobs, saving more, giving more generously or learning a new language could appear on the list of things to final 'get sorted'.

But before you start defining you New Year Resolutions, even before the crazy rush (of buying, wrapping, social events and the like) hits you like a Tsunami... and beaches you high and dry on the deserted shores of another new year – set aside just a couple hours to take stock of your past year and get clear on how you did in this past year.

As you look back 12 months, what stands out for you? What key events took place? How did you handle them?

And through them all, did you choose to become bitter or better? (it’s always a choice)

If little changed and it was simply ‘the same old’ for most of the year, how does that make you feel? And how can you make sure that you really do accomplish something significant in the year ahead?

Here are some very specific questions that will help you unearth what really matters most and get real clarity on what you want to achieve.

Essential Questions to Review Your Past Year

WAS THE PAST YEAR FULFILLING FOR YOU?  WILL THE NEXT ONE BE?

Now, centring upon 6 core human needs (and we do this because ignoring these needs is a sure way to feel unfulfilled), take some undisturbed time right now and answer these seven key questions:

-          What have you become more certain about in this past year?

-          What have you become more uncertain about in this past year?

-          Has your sense of connection to others increased or decreased? In what way?

-          Have you become more aware of your own sense of significance and worth in this past year?

-          How have you grown this past year? (Start with: Faith, Hope and Love)

-          Has your contribution to others increased, decreased or remained the same?

And finally, round this all up by completing this sentence:

-          "This was the year when I …................................................................................................."

Is Your 'Stuck' better termed a 'Mid-Life Crisis'?

How Do You Resolve a Mid-Life Crisis?

Picture
This is for YOU if you’re ready now to take one small, but vital step in the right direction.

If you’re an artist, performer, entrepreneur or business owner who is right now facing some kind of personal crisis, what I’m about to share could provide you with the specific keys you need to completely turn things around. No matter what your age, you can suddenly find yourself facing a period of significant, internal conflict that may have you practically frozen with uncertainty – or firing off in all kinds of random directions in a desperate attempt to live again.

Call it an identity crisis, a midlife crisis, or a quarter-life crisis; such times are likely leave you questioning not only what on earth you’re supposed to do next, but even who you are.

We have to understand that, ultimately, it’s not what’s happened to you that has had you stuck…

It’s actually down to the way you've been THINKING about things: specifically, the LENSES through which you've been looking at your life and the QUESTIONS you've been asking yourself.

Of course, to get to the root of anything YOU HAVE TO DIG – and we ARE going to have to dig pretty deep: uncovering these questions, examining your BELIEFS and your personal NEEDS. And underneath all that there are issues of IDENTITY – and in these videos I’ll be revealing the THREE ESSENTIAL parts of your identity that you simply MUST acknowledge if you are to find any sense of purpose to your life.

So, whatever you’re facing now, the great news is that there are many people who have faced such personal crises and have come out the other side much clearer, much stronger much more fulfilled because they found a new direction that was deeply congruent to who they really are – Enabling them to take on the latter years of life with a new and powerful purpose.
