Everything we say, think and do is tied to our own sense of personal identity.Certainly, God made no mistake when he fashioned us into the individuals we are. And this ‘fashioning’ refers not only to our physical bodies but also to our psychological make-up. We are unique individuals; people with specific gifts and abilities, dreams and desires. But what we make of ourselves can be a very different story. There’s no doubt that our environment is a factor and various significant emotional events (both positive and negative) can have a large bearing upon how we actually turn out. Yet, in truth, we have really only become what we have allowed ourselves to become. The labels we now choose for ourselves *are* truly our own choice. You, and you alone, are in control of your perception; only you can decide the MEANING you are going to give your life. Perhaps it’s because you were labelled as a youngster or have started believing what others have been saying about you - or is it that you feel you’re defined by your work or circumstances? If you don’t have a clear sense of who you are, then you’re quite vulnerable to other people telling you who you are. DISCOVER ONCE AND FOR ALL WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE and get 75% off if you use this link below now: Discover your Identity Pad's Online Crisis Resolution Course is not just for those facing a Mid-Life Crisis - it's for you if you feel like you've still not found your fit in life. Getting to You I can’t claim that there’s a magic formula that guarantees a clear and immediate definition of your life-purpose… but there are a few specific questions that might just unearth the answer for you. But don’t attempt to rush this exercise. Like all buried treasure, it’s worth researching, exploring and then DIGGING to find. So, first get yourself into a quiet place, where there are no demands upon you. Begin to uncover your own thoughts by completing this statement: “I am….” If that’s too simple for you and you wanted a much more complex methodology, I’m sure there are shrinks out there who will charge you more than I would to provide you such a thing. What I’ve found though is that this tiny statement can be very revealing. So try it. Now of course, there are actually many facets of our identity, so you’ll need to complete the statement multiple times. Write *whatever* comes to mind – however bland or obvious, silly or sagacious it might sound. “I am….” “I am….” “I am….” “I am….” Once you’ve done that, let’s explore further from a different angle. Same method, slightly different question: “I am here to…” “I am here to…” “I am here to…” A Trustworthy Mirror Sometimes we’ll uncover deeper layers of truth by asking trusted friends or colleagues, ‘What good thing do bring to the situation?’ You’ll need them to be willing to dig into their thoughts a little and you’ll need to be ready to ask a few variations of this essential question. You could ask them to feedback based on this question: “Whatever’s going on, [your name] can be trusted to…” Only ask this of people whom you know will take the exercise seriously and give it the time it deserves. Can our identity change over time? There’s WHO WE ARE… and then there’s WHO WE BELIEVE WE ARE. And we will always act out of a place of who we believe we are – even if those beliefs are completely false. Sadly, if you do believe a lie, it will in some way become real for you. You’ll expect certain results (or lack of them) and guess what? that’s very likely what you’ll get. From Hobbit to Hero, Farm-boy to Jedi Knight (Luke Skywalker) – if you Change (rename) the Character you Change the Story. Put into the right situation a Hobbit can become a Hero and everyone will see a complete change of character - a change of destiny. So, what beliefs about YOURSELF do you need change? And how can you set new expectations of others by changing your beliefs about them? Tear Up the Labels! When I was a budding spy (aged 8), I learned that it was important to remove all LABELS from any clothing I was wearing, or it could leave a trail of evidence that other spies could use to find out more about me (Wales was full of spies in those days). But far too often we seem to be oblivious to the labels we attach to ourselves. Often, out of pure habit, we find ourselves saying things like “Oh I’m so stupid,” when a mistake has been made. Do you see the labelling that is going on there? "I AM..." It's a statement of identity. Words spoken, even if said in slight jest, have an impact on our self perception. "I’m overweight." is another statement that is notably disempowering. When your unconscious mind hears you say that, it responds by saying, ‘Ok, so I AM overweight (I just heard me say it) – so I’d better do the things that overweight people do." Your unconscious mind will not do anything that is incongruent with your deeply seated sense of identity. So, notice your words and take steps to find an empowering alternative. TIME FOR ACTIONWhatever others have said about you. Whatever your past has indicated is true about you, these actions will propel you towards a much more empowered future - unencumbered by negative beliefs:
Finally... Chillax, Dude! All this identity stuff can sound deep and challenging. Yes, work it through, but allow yourself to enjoy yourself for who you are NOW. Appreciate yourself as someone who is what they is (awful grammar, but you get the point :-) Then, enjoy tyhe process of learning and growing every day... into something even more beautiful.
Most people face it in some form every day; some face it every hour. Some days go by relatively calmly; some seem to assault us on every side. Pressures, demands and unresolved issues circle around in increasing numbers and makes it hard to know where to turn or what to do. Stress, anxiety or total overwhelm, whatever you want to call it, everyone who cares about anything will have faced it at some time. Boiling it down, it’s all just FEAR in disguise. You cannot tackle anxiety, stress or fear whilst it remains as some generalised concept. You *have to* get specific. Any problem well defined in at least half solved. You know there’s a problem when according to Google there are over 33,000 searches a month in the UK for the term ‘stress’. Guess what, people searching for this very broad term are not going to find any decent answers. If that wasn’t bad enough, there are over 60,000 searches a month in the UK for the term ‘anxiety’. So what are we to do? Are we condemned to a life of anxiety with only the occasional get-away-from-it-all holiday? The good news is that there are a number of things you can do to silence the stress, eliminate anxiety and obliterate the overwhelm. You CAN take control, you CAN take command and you CAN make a difference in your own life. The first job of any doctor is to come to an accurate diagnosis. That’s a necessary step before any prescription is handed out. In the same way, you need to get clear on where the problem actually lies. Here are a few places to start your search for answers. "Remember that every emotion is the slave of your perception; change the way you see something and your feelings will immediately change. |

WHO'S COMING? – ATTENDEES LIKE YOU!
- Are not completely content with your progress in life
- Are stuck with a personal or professional issue you'd love to resolve - but don't know where to begin
- Have ever felt you're *not enough* (we'll blow that out of the water in Session 4)
- Are involved in coaching, mentoring or counselling and therapy work – seeking to get the best out of others (did you see ICF Master Coaches' feedback on the videos?)
- Are managing teams within business organisations
- Sometimes feel distinctly ‘out of your depth’ (Session 6 will eradicate this )
- Are not able to effortlessly step up to any challenge that comes your way
And I must add that time and again I've found the connections you make in events like this prove to be beneficial for years to come - as it brings together people who are committed to stepping up in life - and you need people like that around you.
SO TELL ME - ARE YOU REALLY WHERE YOU WANT TO BE IN LIFE?
If you haven't received a promotion recently, there's a reason for that ...and it's not because of your boss, your colleagues or your peers.
Clearly something is missing. But the real solution is not what you think (or you would have found it by now).
Of course, you could choose to justify your current situation and claim it's just how it is.
So, I'm actually rather curious. Are you 'overcoming' – or merely living “a life of quiet desperation"? - as Henry Thoreau so aptly described it. If there’s even a hint of that going on with you, NOW is the time to secure your place and commit to stepping up into something a whole lot more meaningful.

I’ve been asked many times why, when there are numerous archetypes that people have defined over the years, have I settled on only six... and why this specific six. First I need to state that my primary intention is to improve performance and increase the effectiveness in my clients, so this orientation has played a major role in my selection of the archetypes I use. Whilst I’ve gleaned a lot from a wide range of authors, I have learned much from Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette whose work centered around the four archetypes of: King, Warrior, Lover and Magician. |
I fully acknowledge that I could sub-divide the 6 archetypes I use for my initial profiling but starting with something too complex is never a good idea, I believe, so I go with it as far as I can before any kind of subdivision is sought. When I do, I might introduce the Mother, the Innocent, the Shepherd, the Artisan and others, because I see that they all have some value.
It was only once I’d defined the six and started working with them that I began to realise there were 3 that were clearly the ‘left-brain’ types and 3 that were clearly the ‘right-brain’ types. After that I discovered that each had a clear opposite number in the alternate camp and identified exactly what forces caused an attraction between them.
I could add that the ‘Mystic’ is almost synonymous with the ‘Magician’ – though it depends upon whose definition you use.
So I need to clarify that what some people refer to as archetypes, I see merely as an aspect of a broader archetype. The Bully, for example, is simply a facet of an overheated (shadow) Warrior in the Team Me model. Equally, the Victim is the frozen shadow of the Warrior. Both of these are seen as sub-sets of the original, noble archetype - I do not see them as archetypes in their own right.
To label someone as one of these shadows immediately places them into a dangerous position of the individual identifying with that state and in a sense 'owning' their shadow state. Whilst some therapists seem to delight in stirring up an individual's darker sides, I simply use them as an indicator of the mature, positive, healthy archetypal role they've been given in life.
So, quickly back to Jung and Freud. These men did not define archetypes, they had been recognised at least since the time of Philo of Alexandria (10BC to 40AD) but they did make new distinctions as they saw common characteristics and patterns at an unconscious level.
I've learned much from many who have delved into the world of Archetypes and brought forth many valuable distinctions on their journeys, My commitment is to make this knowledge as accessible as possible, without diluting things too much, to the largest possible audience - so I'm sticking with the Team Me Six.
A Warrior in the Dragon's Den?
It's been a while since Rachel left the Dragon's Den team and has spent the last few years majoring on numerous philanthropic activities. Her mission now is to help people get free of a 'poverty mindset' and is wanting to make an impact on those caught in this way of thinking.
After meeting her in June, she wanted to discover more about what I did, and was particularly interested in understanding my work with Archetypes.
Listen in on our conversation as I seek to convey the message that's been on my heart for several years now and forms the basis of the TEAM ME concept.
Sometimes the Sage needs to get a bit more active!
First we explored what it would be like to go even deeper into the expression of the Sage. This helped to highlight the
and provided a stronger contrast for the new archetype we were about to explore.
The quickest way to invoke the Warrior archetype is to provide a target, a goal and some kind of *resistance* to overcome. In this instance, the punch glove provided all we needed.
See how quickly John was able to access a very, very different kind of energy by this simple act. As he took action the whole room supported him so that he’d feel comfortable taking physical action – in fact, he probably didn't want to disappoint them which would have given him even more of a reason to show himself capable.
So, ask yourself, how have you been approaching that specific challenge you’re facing right now? Has your approach been effective? If not, then ask which of the archetypes is likely to help you the most. Then get into that character.

With my head still absorbing things we'd discussed, it quite naturally and effortlessly distilled itself into the poem below.
Best read slowly, quietly, with a slight smile... to the music of Vaughan Williams.
I paint the scene with my eyes
I see what I create
I create what I see
It’s not all there is
But for me, it is to be
This has become my reality
I see, I speak, I walk the path
I plan, I build
I work, I laugh
I believe
And what I believe I see
And what I see I receive
It happens first inside of me
Not empty dreams
Not vanity
But a force of ingenuity
That forges my reality
Unleashing creativity
For everyone to see
For what everyone can see
Started inside of me.
However successful someone may appear to be, the honest ones would have to admit that there’s at least one thing in their lives that really isn't working for them. Many of them will have actually stopped thinking about it altogether - possibly even avoiding the subject as much as they can.
So, imagine someone like that choosing to hire a success coach who does three specific things with them:
1. Helps them face the situation honestly
2. Provides them with a clear plan of action
3. Stays with them throughout the process to ensure they get the result they really wanted
That’s exactly what I do as your Success Coach. I do seven, one-hour sessions for £2,500 and I make sure that in a matter of weeks your situation is completely turned around.
You have dreams that are have not become a reality for you, longings that remain unfulfilled - so why don't we work on those together and get you the result you've always longed for?
If that's you, then take the bravest step by choosing to invest in yourself. Send me a note immediately through the form on my ComeAlive Success Coaching website.
